Have you heard of the newest up-and-coming social media app Yik Yak? Well, Facebook sure has! And we wouldn’t find it surprising if Mark Zuckerberg comes out with something very similar in the near future.
Yik Yak is an app that allows you to get a live feed of what’s happening around you while still keeping your privacy. It’s all anonymous. Right now its traffic and popularity seem to be soaring with the college kids. And Facebook has its eye on any social media app that brings in the younger users. It’s no secret that Facebook is having a hard time keeping the young kids engaged. According to analysts at Piper Jaffray & Co., only 45% of teenagers said they are using Facebook. That’s down from 72% just six months ago.
Facebook is now reportedly working on it’s own anonymous app. Within the coming weeks, it’s expected to launch it’s new app that could compete with similar (on the rise) apps like Yik Yak and Whisper.
Looks like the co-founders of Yik Yak are the right side of social media innovation if Facebook is trying to dip their toes into this game of anonymity.
